In 1994, each league was restructured into three divisions, with the three division winners and the newly introduced wild card winner advancing to a best-of-five playoff round (the « division series »), the National League Division Series (NLDS) and American League Division Series (ALDS). https://businesstransitionsimplified.com/ The team with the best league record is matched against the wild card team unless they are in the same division, in which case, the team with the second-best record plays against the wild card winner.
The Philadelphia Phillies became the first team knocked out of the divisional round when the Mets closed out Game 4 at Citi Field to upset Philadelphia. Meanwhile, in the American League, the New York Yankees advanced to the ALCS, where they beat a Cleveland Guardians team fresh off an ALDS Game 5 win over the Tigers.
The Sox, who were promised $100,000 for cooperating, proceeded to lose the best-of-nine series in eight games, pitching poorly, hitting poorly and making many errors. Though he took the money, Jackson insisted to his death that he played to the best of his ability in the series (he was the best hitter in the series, including having hit the series’ only home run, but had markedly worse numbers in the games the White Sox lost).

« From 200 miles away, you could practically feel New England quaking with fear, grief and disbelief. The Boston Red Sox were one out away from their first World Series championship since 1918 early this morning, and the New York Mets rose up like the ghosts of Denied Christmases past and extended big-league baseball’s most extraordinary postseason by one more game.
The Red Sox struck first in the second when Dave Henderson tripled with one out off of Dwight Gooden and scored on Spike Owen’s sacrifice fly. Dwight Evans’s RBI single next inning with two on made it 2–0 Red Sox. In the fifth, Jim Rice hit a leadoff triple and scored on Don Baylor’s single. After Evans singled, Sid Fernandez relieved Gooden and allowed an RBI double to Henderson. Bruce Hurst pitched 7+1⁄3 shutout innings before Tim Teufel’s home run in the eighth put the Mets on the board. In the ninth, Mookie Wilson doubled with two outs and scored on Rafael Santana’s single before Hurst struck out Lenny Dykstra to end the game as the Red Sox’s 4–2 gave them a 3–2 series lead heading back to New York.
The Series, and especially Game 6, were referenced in the Seinfeld episode « The Boyfriend », which also guest starred former Mets player Keith Hernandez. Hernandez being referred to Game 6 in the episode suggested that he was part of the winning rally, even though he was the 2nd (and final) out of the inning, though Hernandez was a big part of the prior round’s Game 6 rally in the 9th inning.
In the fourth Henderson reached after Darling hit him with a pitch. After Spike Owen flew out, Hurst laid down a bunt that moved Henderson into scoring position. Mets manager Davey Johnson then lifted Darling from the game and brought in Sid Fernandez to face Boggs and the leading hitter of the series, Marty Barrett. Boggs managed to draw a walk, but Fernandez retired Barrett on a fly ball to right field to end the inning.
Given a reprieve, Bobby Ojeda batted for himself (he grounded out) and threw another inning. Going six innings was quite a feat for Ojeda since Boston had runners on base in all but one inning yet left eight on base against Ojeda. The Red Sox took advantage of shoddy defense by the Mets in the seventh against Roger McDowell, with Knight’s errant throw pulling Keith Hernandez off first to put runners on the corners. Boston, without a steal attempt in the Series, tried the hit-and-run several times and usually sent runners on 3-and-2, as the Red Sox did with Jim Rice in the seventh. His jump enabled him to beat a throw to second on what looked like a double-play ball. The Mets got Dwight Evans at first, but because Rice was safe at second, Marty Barrett crossed home plate for a 3-2 Boston lead. When Rich Gedman followed with a single it looked as if Boston would double its lead, but for the second time in the Series, Mookie Wilson, who had a notoriously weak arm and had undergone shoulder surgery the previous winter, threw to Gary Carter on the fly and the catcher rode Rice away from the plate for the third out. Rice’s speed, or lack thereof, had kept him from scoring on Evans’s rattling ball in the gap in the first inning, and it haunted Boston again, but not nearly as much as much as a decision by John McNamara that would stay with Red Sox fans for years to come.
Boston went 95–66 during the season, winning the American League East division by 5+1⁄2 games over their biggest nemesis, the New York Yankees, marking the first time since 1904 that the Red Sox and the Yankees finished first and second in the standings.

In a nut shell girls will study the pictures-and-facts about a country on one side of the card for 10 seconds, and then flip to the other side to see how many questions they can answer. It can be played individually or in a larger group. There are 71 cards in this game so you won’t get bored.
How to Play: This game is played in many Australian preschools and kindergartens to help teach children their classmates’ names as well as good listening skills. Kids sit in a circle and an adult asks one child to go into the middle—they’re the first Skippyroo, the kangaroo. Skippyroo crouches forward on the floor with their eyes closed while the kids in the circle chant: « Skippyroo, kangaroo, dozing in the midday sun, comes a hunter, run, run, run. » At this stage an adult points to a child sitting in the circle, who then touches Skippyroo’s shoulder and says, « Guess who’s caught you just for fun? » and waits. Skippyroo tries to name the owner of the voice and if they guess correctly, swap places. The game begins again and continues until all the kids have had a chance to be Skippyroo.
To play, shuffle all of the cards and pass them out. The student with only a question on their card begins by reading the question. Whichever student has the answer reads it out loud and then reads the question on their card. Play continues this way until the last answer – the one with no question on the card.
How to Play: The game begins with one child as « It. » They choose either ounch (up) or neech (down). If they choose neech, then the ground is not safe; runners can be tagged out unless they are ounch, up on something like a stump or a rock. The opposite is true as well: If « It » chooses ounch, then the ground is safe so everyone remains on terra firma. Of course, children quickly realize that it’s boring to stay only in the safe zones. The first person tagged becomes « It » for the next round of the game. This popular kids game is great fun, great exercise, and a great way to burn energy!
